Abdullahi Ahmed An-Na’im is the Charles Howard Candler Professor of Law at Emory University School of Law. He is a prominent Muslim intellectual and proponent of human rights and democracy in the Islamic world. His areas of scholarly specialization include human rights in Islam and cross-cultural issues in human rights, Islamic law and criminal law. He argues for a synergy and interdependence between human rights, religion and secularism, instead of a dichotomy and incompatibility between them.
Join us for an evening with Professor An-Na’im where his latest book, Islam and the Secular State: Negotiating the Future of Shari’a (Harvard University Press, 2008), will be explored with Nader Hashemi (Josef Korbel School of International Studies, University of Denver) and Mohammad Fadel (Faculty of Law, University of Toronto).
