Ramadan Lecture and Iftar

Noor Cultural Centre will be holding its traditional Saturday lecture and iftar evenings during Ramadan. The program includes three-course dinner, and maghrib, isha, and short taraweeh prayers. Lectures will commence approximately 90 minutes before maghrib time. Plan to attend and give yourself a Ramadan evening that is nourishing on every level.

Tickets: $20 (adult); $10 (children 6-12)

The deadline to reserve tickets is 6:00 pm, Wednesday August 3.

Program

7:00 pm | Lecture by Dr. Nevin Reda: “Is the Qur’an Well-Organized or Disorganized? Surat al-Baqara and the Concept of Election”
8:36 pm | Maghrib prayers followed by dinner

Nevin Reda’s research focuses on the Qur’an, often in relation to women or in relation to the Bible. She has a particular interest in Surat al-Baqara, the longest of the Qur’an’s chapters, on which she wrote her thesis, entitled ‘Textual Integrity and Coherence in the Qur’an: Repetition and Narrative Structure in Surat al-Baqara.’ She has previously taught at the University of Toronto and at Huron University College, and served as coordinator the Canadian Certificate in Muslim Studies at Emmanuel College. She holds a BSc in engineering from Cairo University, in addition to an MA in Biblical Hebrew Language and Literature from the University of Toronto. Her PhD is also from the University of Toronto, and has a concentration in the areas of the Qur’an and Islamic Thought and Education.
