Ramadan Lecture and Iftar
Noor Cultural Centre will be holding its traditional Saturday lecture and iftar evenings during Ramadan. The program includes three-course dinner, and maghrib, isha, and short taraweeh prayers. Lectures will commence approximately 90 minutes before maghrib time. Plan to attend and give yourself a Ramadan evening that is nourishing on every level.

7:00 pm | Lecture by Dr. Ruba Kana’an: “The Function and History of the Friday Prayer”
8:26 pm | Maghrib followed by dinner
Ruba Kana’an is the current Noor Chair in Islamic Studies at York University. She is a specialist in Islamic art, the urban histories of pre-modern Muslim societies, and the interface between art and law in Muslim contexts. She has a BSc in architecture (Jordan 1987), and an MPhil and a DPhil in Islamic art and architecture from Oxford University (UK 1993 and 1998). She has held the posts of Dean and Research Fellow at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, Research Fellow at Oxford University and Visiting Fellow at the Aga Khan Programme for Art and Architecture at Harvard University. Prior to her career as an academic, Professor Kana’an was engaged in cultural heritage management and research on the built environment and sustainable energy design.
