On Orientalism: Remembering Edward Said
September 25, 2013 marked the ten-year anniversary of the death of academic, public intellectual, and activist Edward Said (Professor of English and Comparative Literature, Columbia University).
The author of many works on the Middle East and literary criticism, Professor Said is perhaps best known for his seminal book ‘Orientalism‘ in which he dissected and critiqued “the West”‘s scholarship on, and representation of, “the Orient” – in particular, Islam and the Middle East. To mark the anniversary of his passing, Noor offers this screening of an interview with Professor Said in which he discusses the arguments presented in ‘Orientalism‘, followed by a discussion.
