Ramadan is about more than just the experience of fasting from food and drink but its most immediate impact is undoubtedly an ability to empathise with those who are compulsorily and/or indefinetely deprived.  This lecture helps us to to reflect on the ethics and possibilities of sharing and sustainability.

About Sarah Elton

Sarah Elton is a national best-selling author, journalist and speaker.

Her new book Consumed: Food for a Finite Planet made the national best-seller list in its first week. The book has been described by internationally renown food writer Naomi Duguid as “A must-have for anyone interested in food.”  Sarah’s first book Locavore: From Farmers’ Fields to Rooftop Gardens, How Canadians Are Changing the Way We Eat is a national bestseller and won Gold at the Canadian Culinary Book Awards. It was also named one of top 50 books of 2010 and is a David Suzuki Foundation Book Club pick.

Sarah’s writing has appeared in Maclean’s MagazineThe Globe and MailThe New York Times, and TheAtlantic.com, and she can be heard regularly on CBC Radio’s Here and Now as its food columnist.  Sarah is regularly invited to speak at conferences, universities, colleges, and libraries. She also sits on the board of directors of PEN Canada.
