In 2007, Parliament designated October as Islamic History Month Canada, to celebrate Muslims’ and Islamic civilizations’ intellectual, scientific, and cultural contributions to human flourishing.

To conclude our special Islamic History Month Canada Series, Noor presents a lecture by Dr. Ingrid Hehmeyer, speaking on the topic of ‘The Medical Sciences in Islamic Miniature Paintings’

Dr. Ingrid Hehmeyer is an Associate Professor in the History of Science and Technology at Ryerson University.  Her primary area of study is in human-environmental relationships in the arid regions of ancient and medieval Arabia.  Dr. Hehmeyer also studies the history of the medical sciences in the Islamic world. As a licensed pharmacist, she is particularly interested in the use of medicinal substances and their manufacture, and she has studied pharmaceutical utensils from the medieval Islamic period housed at the Royal Ontario Museum.
