Dalit and Muslim Persecution in India: History & Current Politics
Statement of solidarity from Hindu, Indian and Indian diasporic scholars based in/from Canada
This event will explore the history and current politics of anti-Dalit and anti-Muslim persecution in India, including the connections between the two as well as with other forms of marginalization in the region.

  • Discussion, led by:
    Prof. Chinnaiah Jangam – Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Carleton University.  His research and writing is focused on the intellectual history of Dalits, particularly their engagement with colonialism, nationalism, and Christianity
    Sanober Umar – PhD Candidate in the Department of History at Queen’s University.  Her work examines internal ‘border making’ processes for Muslim minorities within Post-Colonial India, and the smokescreen of secularism in India’s ‘liberal democracy’ between 1947-1993.
