Dastangoi
by Ankit Chadha

Dastangoi is the lost art of Urdu storytelling which once flourished in early modern India.  It developed around tales of the adventures of  Amir Hamza – an 8th-century Arab hero.
S. R. Faruqi, the noted Urdu litterateur, and Mahmood Farooqui, who conceived of the modern format of the art form, have been instrumental in reviving this art in India.

Ankit Chadha
, a disciple of Mahmood Farooqui, will introduce the audience to dastangoi and the work being done to revive it. He will perform two dastans:
Dastan Amir Hamza aur Amar Ayyaar ke Bachpan Ki and
Dastan Aazar Jaadu ki

There will be English introductions to the performances.
Date: Thursday October 23
Time: 7 pm
Location: Auditorium, Noor Cultural Centre
